Proud father Simon Cowell wants to have another child at age 63

There’s nothing new or shocking anymore about successful older men wanting to have kids well into their later years. American sweethearts George Clooney and Richard Gere became first-time fathers in their 50s.

And, the trend is similar in the UK as well. English television personality, entrepreneur and record executive Simon Cowell welcomed his first child when he was around 54.

Simon Cowell, whose mother is from Birmingham, and Lauren Silverman welcomed their son Eric Philip Cowell in New York City, USA on Valentine’s Day in 2014. Eric has been named after Simon’s late father.

When Eric was born, Cowell said: “I never knew how much love and pride I would feel”.

Almost a decade later, Cowell, 63, wants his son to have a sibling. The Britain’s Got Talent creator told The Sun he’d love to have another baby with his fiancee, Lauren Silverman, 45.

“Being a dad is the best thing that’s ever happened to me. I love every second I spend with him. So then I’m thinking the next step is he’s going to be a teenager. Those years when they’re young — I had such an amazing experience all through those years, and I was thinking about it probably because of that.

“Eric has got a lot of friends and we do a lot of things together as a family. But you never know with kids if they’re happy being on their own or how would he feel if there was another one? So look, will it happen? I don’t know. But I would love another kid. I really like being a dad,” he said.

Who is Lauren Silverman?

Cowell, who is worth around £496 million, and Silverman have been together since around 2012. Silverman is an entrepreneur/socialite and the daughter of businessman Steven Davies and Carole Davies.

The couple first met in 2008 and became friends first. At the time, she was married to real estate mogul Andrew Silverman and has a child with him. Cowell’s relationship had scandalous beginnings as he was allegedly friends with Andrew, according to Parade.

Rumours about Cowell and his now-fiancee first surfaced in 2012, and in 2013, they revealed they were expecting a child together.

Simon Cowell loves being a dad

A month after welcoming his son, Cowell told Extra: “I had a brother when I was younger so I think it’s kind of cool to have two. Well, two or three.”

While he was initially nervous about becoming a dad, he later grew into the role.

He said: “I actually said to Lauren beforehand, ‘What if I like the dogs more than him?’ and she said, ‘You’re gonna be absolutely fine’. And then literally within seconds of him being born, I got it! I was born to be a dad.”
