Birmingham boasts a significant Irish community, but where within the city is this presence most pronounced?

Birmingham is renowned for its diverse cultural heritage which is enriched by the city's substantial Irish community and its unique traditions and energy.

Each year Birmingham's vibrant Irish influence is celebreated at its renowned St Patrick’s Day Parade. But you don't have to wait until March 17 to experience Irish culture in Brum. The Irish ethnic group forms 1.5% of Birmingham’s population, as per the Birmingham City Council’s findings - that's 16,694 people who are Irish nationals and living in Brum which has an overall population of 1,144,099 people - according to the 2021 Census.

The latest Census 2021 data also gives us a broader picture of the number of Irisn peole across the whole country, showing that 507,465 individuals in England and Wales identify as 'Irish’, making up for 0.9% of the overall population - so Birmingham has a higher than national average Irish population. 

The Irish have a longstanding history in the UK, and their community is one of the oldest migrant groups in the country.
