Cineworld on Broad Street hosted the premiere of the final series of the hit television show Peaky Blinders, which follows the lives of post World War One gangsters here in Birmingham.

The last series ended on quite the cliffhanger, so there’s plenty of anticipation to find out exactly what’s in store for the Shelby family.

Over 50,000 people applied to attend the premiere of Peaky Blinders sixth season, and those lucky 300 who managed to nab tickets stood alongside a star studded red carpet, to see those involved in bringing the show to life, and find out what we can expect to see in the final season.

Steven Knight, Creator of Peaky Blinders, said: “Expect the unexpected as the best yet Tommy is facing some pretty formidable enemies.”

“This has always been a Birmingham story - a Birmingham thing - to have it celebrated in Brum is fantastic and it always will be so as we go forward. We’re never going to leave Birmingham so that’s what it’s always about.”

Anthony Byrne, the shows director, said: “It’s a beautiful ending. Or as Steven says the sort of ending of the beginning. But yeah, it’s Gothic and it’s dark. And it’s really about the depths of Tommy Shelby so which sounds quite lofty and deep. But that’s what it is.”

The red carpet also saw some of Birmingham’s best known celebrities, and being fans of the series themselves shared with us what they feel the show has brought to the city.

Jasper Carrott, legendary Birmingham comedian, said: “A tremendous amount of pride because obviously I know Steve - the writer - very well. It’s been a positive side of Birmingham rather than the negative which is what you normally get and so it’s changed the perception of the city - there’s no two ways about that - and of course it’s getting the city known abroad as well as here.”

Ian Taylor, Former Aston Villa Player, said: “It’s out Birmingham on the map hasn’t it - with everybody. And I just like the whole vibe, I like the storylines - they’re fantastic. More death I’m looking forward to as well! But not just like the whole… I just love dressing up for tonight as well. I love it.

While this premiere may mark the end of the television series, talk of a film being in the works may mean we’re yet to see the end of the Shelby family’s story.
