Birmingham-born rockstar Ozzy Osbourne won two Grammy awards - Best Rock Album and Best Metal Performance in Los Angeles last night - and he had a heartfelt message for fans.

It is the first time in almost 30 years that Ozzy, aged 74, has won a Grammy. The awards came just a week after he said he was retiring from touring because of health issues.

Ozzy was nominated in four categories for the 2023 Grammy’s announced last night (Sunday, January 5) - including for Best rock performance and Best Album. He won Best Rock Album for Patient no. 9 and Best Live Performance for Degradation Rules, from the same album.

The winning album also features tracks with the late Jeff Beck, the guitarist of the Yardbirds, and the late Taylor Hawkins, the Foo Fighters drummer.

Sadly, Ozzy wasn’t able to attend the awards ceremony. Producer Andrew Watt and Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo picked up the awards on his behalf.

They read out a message from Ozzy saying: “I love you all and f*** off.”

Band mate Tony Iommi, who featured in Degradation Rules, has also spoken of his pride in Ozzy’s win saying: “Great news! Thanks to everyone who voted for us!”

Adam Wakeman, keyboard player in Ozzy Osbourne’s band since 2004, added: “Huge congratulations to the best Boss I’ve ever had. Excuse the language but this man is a f*****g legend, and what a privilege it is to have played hundreds of shows with the great man. Great album, and well deserved.”

Ozzy cancelled his UK tour, including in Birmingham, when announcing his retirement. He had shared a statement on social media: “This is probably one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to share with my loyal fans… Believe me when I say that the thought of disappointing my fans really f—s me up, more than you will ever know.”

“My team is currently coming up with ideas for where I will be able to perform without having to travel from city to city or country to country.”

One person said on Twitter: “sad people get this type of stuff when they retire but at least he is here to see it.”
