Police are appealing for information following an attempted armed robbery in Oldbury this morning (Saturdya, October 8).

Three masked men tried to force their way into Coventry Building Society in Hagley Road West at around 8.30am. The trio - believed to be armed with an axe and hammer - were thwarted by staff and fled in a dark-coloured Volkswagen Scirocco where a get-away driver was waiting outside. Thankfully no-one was injured.

Officers are carrying out quick-time enquiries - including reviewing CCTV - to try and establish who was involved. They are asking anyone who was in the area and saw what happened to contact them.

A police spokesman added: “We believe the vehicle was on cloned plates and may have been in the area last night. We’re asking for anyone who saw anything suspicious then to also come forward.”
