Northern Rail launches flash sale with £1 tickets: How to get cheap fares to and from Birmingham

Northern Rail has announced an autumn flash sale with one million £1 tickets up for grabs for journeys across the North of England, including to and from Birmingham.
Brummies will be able to enjoy trips for next to nothing between Tuesday 6 September and Thursday 20 October 2022 – a big relief amidst the ongoing cost of living crisis.

Hide AdThe £1 promotional tickets, which go on sale this week, will be spread across Northern’s nearly 2,000 services a day, with between 5-10% of service capacity available at the ‘flash sale’ rate.
Mark Powles, Customer and Commercial Director at Northern, said: “This is our way of helping to extend the summer holiday feeling by a further six weeks - getting people through until the start of the October half term.
“Whether it’s for a weekend in the historic city of Chester, a night out in Newcastle, a day at the seaside in Scarborough, or a walking holiday in the Lake District, these fares will get you where you want to be for less.”

Tickets go on sale from 10am on Tuesday 30 August 2022, and they will be on a first come first serve basis while stocks last. Customers are urged to book early to avoid disappointment.
How to buy Northern Rail’s £1 tickets
The promotional fares, which must be booked seven days in advance of travel, are only available online.
Tickets can be purchased via Northern’s app and website, where you will be encouraged to plan your journey.
If you see fares for £1, then be quick, they won’t be there forever!
