The London Cocktail Club on Temple Street is applying for a licence to serve alcohol from 9am to 3am every day of the week.

Images now show how the new bar would look if a licence was granted by the council, showing a modern interior with seating areas and bars.

However concerns were raised by residents around the potential impact of noise on the local area from both the bar itself and waste collection.

Councillors Albert Bore and Kath Hartley have also written to the committee to express their disapproval at the plans.

“Extending a licence to 3:30am is totally unacceptable,” they wrote.

“Moreover, we are dismayed that West Midlands Police have agreed with the applicant that licensable activity should cease at 2am, with premises closing at 2.30am.”

However it appears that fears around the opening of the bar from residents have, for the most part, been allayed by the operators, with a representative for the bar addressing the council’s licensing committee during the meeting.

Andrew Woods said: “I think it’s right to say that there wasn’t one thing that the residents asked for that we didn’t agree with.

“It wasn’t a case of bartering. The residents said ‘these are our concerns and this is what we’d like you to do, and our response to that was to propose the additional conditions and agree.

“I think we’re pretty much there with the residents to be honest, and a noise report prepared for the committee says, in summary, that all noise from activity inside the premises will be contained by the building envelope itself – so there’d be no noise escaping from the premises.

“And we will be acoustically sealed from all of the offices around us so we don’t disturb the offices, which naturally means that noise will not be escaping from the premises.”

The licensing hearing took place this week (Monday) and a decision is expected within five working days.
