A mum-of-two has vowed never to return to Nando's again after discovering a CATERPILLAR in her son's meal in a restaurant in Birmingham.

Georgia Bryan, 25, had visited the branch of the peri-peri chicken restaurant at the Fort Shopping Centre to celebrate her boy's second birthday. But she was left 'disgusted' when she spotted a bright yellow creepie-crawlie on the plate as the tot began tucking into his chicken burger, chips and rice.

Georgia was provided a refund and has since been offered £45 compensation after Nando's apologised for the grim discovery on December 9. Carer Georgia, of Erdington, said: "We went out to celebrate my two-year-old son's birthday and I ordered him a chicken burger with rice and chips. But when it arrived, I looked over and saw this little yellow thing which didn't look right and at first I thought it was a maggot.

"But my partner inspected it further and discovered it was a caterpillar. It made me feel sick. It completely put us off our meals. I still can't believe it. They said the food had come from abroad so who knows what country it has travelled from. The fact it was in my son's food makes it ten times worse for me. He could have easily eaten it. I'm never eating at Nando's again."

Georgia said she has since contacted solicitors but they told her no legal action could be taken because the caterpillar was not consumed. She added: "The staff were very apologetic and handled it well, but it doesn't disguise the fact it happened and these things should no happen.

"They offered us a £45 meal, but I'm not ever eating there again so that's no good to us. We contacted solicitors but because my son didn't eat it there's nothing that can be done. It's just not right, these things should not be happening when you go out and pay more than £50 for a meal."

A Nando's spokesperson said: "The health and safety of our customers is our top priority. We’re very sorry this happened, and we’re in touch with the customer to resolve the matter. We’ve robust procedures in place to check all our fresh ingredients and these occurrences are extremely rare.”
