Supermarket giant Morrisons has created around a dozen jobs by opening one of its stores in Birmingham’s popular Jewellery Quarter.

Ryan Lynch, a director at leading commercial agency Siddall Jones, explained that a 15-year lease has been agreed for the Morrisons Daily at the Gilder’s Yard development, located on Great Hampton Street.

A spokesperson for Morrisons confirmed that the new store would be employing up to 12 people. The Gilder’s Yard development is by Grainger plc, a FTSE 250 company that is the UK’s largest listed residential landlord, with around 9,000 rental homes in its portfolio across the UK, with a £2 billion investment pipeline aimed at doubling in size.

Mr Lynch said: “We’re delighted to have secured this letting from Morrisons, which we feel highlights the transformation of the area following major investments from the likes of Grainger plc and Cordia.

“Gilders Yard is a brand new private rented sector development fully owned by Grainger plc, with a range of new shops below and luxury flats above. This is an exceptional private rented scheme, built with real quality and centred around the amenity and experience of its residents. We also still have one retail unit still available fronting onto Great Hampton Street which would be ideal for a café or food operator.”

The deal saw Womble Bond Dickinson provide legal advice to Grainger PLC, while Aspect Law acted on behalf of J S Convenience Ltd, the company running the Morrisons Daily store.
