Man arrested on suspicion of raping woman in Birmingham park

West Midlands Police have arrested a man after a woman was sexually assaulted in Handsworth Park on Sunday (January 7).

The force was alerted around 7.30pm and officers cordoned off an area of the park for forensic examination. The cordon has now been lifted.

A 27-year-old man was arrested last night (January 8) on suspicion of rape and remains in custody for questioning. Meanwhile officers have stepped up patrols in the area following the incident.
