Man, 26, jailed for ‘frenzied’ knife attack on housemate in Birmingham

A man has been jailed for more than 20 years for a frenzied knife attack on a former housemate at a Birmingham bedsit.

Police found Jacob Taylor in Winson Green on the evening of 20 May last year shortly after he’d repeatedly stabbed the man in Leyton Road, Lozells.

Taylor had been evicted the previous day following an altercation with the 29-year-old man but broke back inside armed with a knife.

He approached the victim as he sat on his sofa eating dinner and stabbed him with what was later described as an “overarm” stabbing motion.

The 26-year-old stabbed him repeatedly as they struggled on the floor and when other tenants emerged to investigate the disorder they believed the man was dead.

The victim survived the stabbing.

Officers flooded the area and found Taylor around two hours later.

Forensic examination on his clothing revealed droplets of the victim’s blood – and at Birmingham Crown Court on 13 October he was jailed for 22 years after he was found guilty of attempted murder.

DC Lyn Dell investigated the case from the Force CID. He said: “This was a shocking attack that nearly cost a man his life. Thanks to medical professionals he pulled through, though, and is continuing his recovery. I wish him well for the future.

“Taylor is clearly a dangerous man who is prepared to use extreme violence with weapons. It was important we caught up with him quickly and that’s exactly what we did, catching him shortly after the stabbing.

“I’m satisfied that the length of his jail terms reflects the severity of the incident.”
