Road traffic collision on M6 at Spaghetti Junction - latest diversion routes and delay times

Lanes 3 and 4 have re-opened on the M6 southbound between J7 (Great Barr) and J6 (Gravelly Hill), Spaghetti Junction, following an earlier collision. Lanes 1 and 2 remain closed and there are delays of 45 minutes above normal journey times and 4 miles of congestion.

The M6 southbound was closed between J7 and J6 earlier due to a collision involving a heavy goods vehicle and a car. There were longer delays of up to 60 minutes on the motorway as there was an extensive diesel spillage across the carriageway.

The incident took place around 5.30AM on 30 August. Emergency services including Central Motorway Police Group are in attendance and diversion routes have been set up.

Diversion routes

If you want to travel on the M6 today, keep in mind the following diversion routes. You are advised to follow the Hollow Diamond diversion symbol on road signs:

  • Leave the M6 southbound at J7 and take the exit onto the A34 south.
  • Follow the A34 south to its junction with the A4540 and turn left onto the A4540 heading east.
  • Continue on the A4540 to the Dartmouth Circus roundabout and take the 1st exit at the roundabout to join the A38M north.
  • Follow the A38M back to the M6 J6 and rejoin the M6 southbound to continue your journey.

Other closures

Lane 1 (of 2) was closed on the M42 southbound between J11 and J10 due to a broken down heavy goods vehicle but the scene is now clear and all lanes have re-opened on the M42 southbound between J11 and J10 following an earlier broken down vehicle. There are residual delays of around 30 minutes however, delays will start to ease shortly.

Two (of 4) lanes are closed on the M40 southbound between J12 Gaydon and J11 Banbury for recovery of a vehicle which was involved in an earlier collision and came to rest down the embankment. There are delays of 55 minutes above normal journey times and 5 miles of congestion.
