Serious multiple vehicle crash on M5 near J4 amid snow: other travel disruptions

A serious crash involving multiple vehicles on the M5 has caused delays of up to 45 minutes in the West Midlands. National Highways have issued a severe weather alert for snow affecting the North West, North East & Midlands regions.

The severe weather warning will be in place between 9 am on March 9 to 8am on March 10. Road users are advised to check ahead & plan for disruption to journeys.

The crash took place last night and the M5 northbound remains closed within Junction 4 affecting travel to Rubery, Bromsgrove, and Stourbridge following a serious collision. Traffic is being diverted via the exit and entry slip roads. There are currently delays of at least 45 mins above usual journey times between Junction 5 on M42 and Junction 4.

All lanes are closed and normal traffic conditions are expected between 14:15 and 14:30 on March 9, 2023.

Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service have been contacted for more details.

Travel disruption in the West Midlands

Problems were reported by the West Midlands Railways. There have been cancellations to services between Birmingham New Street and Rugeley Trent Valley due to a points failure between Birmingham New Street and Rugeley Trent Valley.
