Travel disruption after M5 closure near West Bromwich due to police incident

Motorists faced severe delays and travel disruption today (September 12) after the M5 was closed in both directions.

West Midlands Roads said the M5 has reopened with one lane remaining closed in the southbound direction. However, current delays and congestion of over 60 minutes were reported on motorway approaches as well as local roads surrounding the interchange M5 J1 and M6 J9/10. Commuters have been asked to consider taking alternative routes.

Earlier, West Midlands Police said the M5 southbound between the M6 J8 and J1 (WestBromwich) will be closed as they continue to deal with an incident. They were called to reports reports that a man had fallen from Newton Road Bridge around 7.10am. He is being treated for serious injuries.
