Another arrest has taken place yesterday in the murder investigation of teenager Sekou Doucoure in Lozells. The 18-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday (27 July) on suspicion of murder. He’s been taken into custody by the West Midlands Police and will be questioned.

Sekou, 16, was stabbed in Nursery Road, near Burbury Street on 12 July around 6.30pm.

Despite efforts from the armed response officers, who found him 11 minutes later, and paramedics, nothing could be done to save him and he sadly died at the scene.

A 16-year-old has been charged with Sekou’s murder and three people aged 15, 19 and 25, have been released on police bail.

Detective Inspector Laura Harrison, from homicide team, said: “We are continuing to support Sekou’s family and they have been updated with the details of this arrest.

“We continue to trawl through hours of CCTV footage to gain a better understanding of what happened on that tragic evening.

“We still need your help, if you saw something and haven’t spoken to us, please do so. Or if you have CCTV, mobile phone or dash cam footage get in touch.”

The mother of the murdered teen had earlier issued an appeal.

She said: “My son was a lovely, hardworking, kind and respectful boy. He absolutely loved his family and close friends. His biggest passion was playing football. He had his whole life ahead of him. He was taken from us too soon and in the worst possible way.

“I am begging anyone who may have any information that could help bring the culprits to face the law and keep them away from our society, before any other child’s life is taken away.”
