The coronavirus infection rate in Birmingham remains substantially higher than the average for England.

Latest figures show that there were 14,129 cases per 100,000 people in the city over the latest 24 hour reporting period - with the median figure for England being 11,990.

The UK Daily Cornovirus Dashboard shows that the number of coronavirus cases in Birmingham has risen by 349 in the latest 24 hour record for October 5 (Tuesday) - and there were two more deaths.

It means there have been 12 deaths in the past week, which is a decrease on 21 the previous week.

These are among 14,443 West Midlands coronavirus deaths.

The figures include anyone who died within 28 days of a positive test result for Covid-19, and whose usual residence was in Birmingham.

Across the UK, the number of recorded cases increased by 33,049 over the period, to 7,967,985.

The national total number of deaths reported today may include a number which were unreported yesterday due to a delay from one data source.

Daily death counts are revised each day, with each case backdated to the actual date of death.

Coronavirus vaccination uptake for the UK has been suspended to allow developers to work on a solution to include 12 to 15-year-olds.
