Residents have been asking if their bin collections day will be missed due to large portions of the workforce having Thursday, June 2 and Friday, June 3 off.

Hundreds of street parties are set to take place across the region to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. The four days of festivities will involve street parties, big lunches and many more events, all creating rather sizeable mounds of rubbish and emphasising the need for regular bin collections.

Widespread road closures have also added an element of doubt to whether people’s bins will be collected on time. So far, two councils have confirmed to the Local Democracy Reporting Service whether there are any special arrangements going into the long weekend.

Solihull Council has said that bin collections will take place as usual over the bank holiday and that there are no planned changes to the schedule. The borough is set to host over 50 street parties over the four days

Meanwhile, Birmingham City Council also confirmed that bin collections across the city will remain as scheduled, with no alterations to the original timetable. Almost 100 street parties will take place across Birmingham between Thursday and Sunday, with a full list available here.

Jubilee celebrations have already begun in some areas of the city with bunting up and Union Jacks hanging from windows. Birmingham Cathedral is in hot water over displaying flags in an incorrect fashion.
