Lycett opposed the tournament being held in Qatar due to the country’s human rights and LGBTQ+ issues. He publicly announced that he would donate the money to charities that support gay people in football if the former England captain withdrew - but the former England captain ignored him.

Lycett didn’t really shred his cash - even though he filmed himself chucking the money into a giant machine. He later revealed that the money had already been donated to LGBTQ+ charities. But since then he’s had a rather unusual dream about Beckham being in Birmingham.
