Brummie comedian Joe Lycett is one of the most popular comedians in the country right now. He knows how to make headlines and isn’t shy of controversy either.

In the recent past, he’s made front cover news for “mocking” former PM Liz Truss and calling out David Beckham for supporting Qatar during the FIFA World Cup. Lycett gained more fans since the prank.

And now, the Hall Green-born comedian - who previously presented BBC Two‘s The Great British Sewing Bee and Channel 4‘s Joe Lycett’s Got Your Back - will soon join the likes of Graham Norton in having his own chat show.

What is the show about?

Channel 4 has commissioned ‘The Joe Lycett Live Show’ (working title). The broadcaster says the brand-new 5x60 weekly Friday night comedy show will be broadcast live from Birmingham - with a live audience and celebrity guests.

A Channel 4 spokesperson said: “Following the success of Channel 4’s ‘Joe Lycett’s Big Pride Party’ last year, for which Joe has been nominated for a National Comedy Award, he will be back broadcasting live from his hometown of Birmingham for five weeks.

“Each Friday a mix of Joe’s community of local legends, LGBTQ+ heroes and allies will join him alongside celebrities and big-name guests from the worlds of comedy, television, music and film.

“Joe will take a look back at the week in a way only he can – combining his unique brand of mischief and mayhem with his singular style of comedy. Shot on the banks of Birmingham’s canals, the show is expected to bring a touch of Hollywood sparkle to Digbeth.”

What Joe Lycett said about his new chat show?

Joe Lycett said: “I’m absolutely psyched and naturally very nervous about hosting a weekly live show from Birmingham, but it has been a dream of mine for many years and I look forward to some (controlled) late night chaos.”

When is the show on and who is appearing?

Channel 4 has not yet released the date the show will air. No information has been given about guests either, but we will update our story as soon as we hear!

What the producers and Channel 4 say about the new Joe Lycett chat show

Emily Hudd, joint MD at Rumpus Media, said:“We are so excited that Joe is hosting this series from the centre of his universe – Birmingham – creating a truly inclusive show to which everyone is invited. It’s a weekly celebration uniquely curated by Joe that harnesses both his mischief but also his warmth - it will be funny, silly and explicitly Joe Lycett.”
