I got glam in Great Barr before tasting an influencer-approved breakfast - it's hype-worthy

Express & Star journalist Kirsty-Louise Card tries out two transformed businesses in Great Barr, which influencers have raved over - this is how it went.

Back in February, Great Barr welcomed two new businesses side-by-side on Pages Lane.

Spa La La and Coco Latte have fast become popular spots for locals and those heading on journeys further away along the nearby M6.

Living close by, I was pleased to see the dull, grey shop fronts, which I rarely saw open, transformed into something new and was curious to try them out myself - especially after seeing local influencers popping by raving about them.

So today (June 5), I decided to start my day off right by getting glam at the salon and having a hearty breakfast - and here’s how it went!

Getting glam in Great Barr at Spa La La

Walking into Spa La La, you’re immediately greeted by friendly faces and a sparkly setting that feels like every girl’s dream.

It’s like stepping into a pink palace, with beautiful spaces to relax, unwind, and get glam for any occasion, whatever your age.

It’s incredible how much the venue has changed from the business that was there before, which I hardly ever saw open.

I was welcomed by the staff, who were both pleasant and professional, and taken over to the sinks for a wash and blow-dry.

The water was perfectly warm, and the shampooing was so soothing that I could have fallen asleep right there—thankfully I didn’t, as that would have been a little embarrassing!

As my hair was dried and styled, we enjoyed a lovely chat, and I was treated to a complimentary cup of tea made exactly how I like it—and I’m quite fussy about my cuppa.

I’ve also had my hair cut here and absolutely loved the result when I went from long hair to shoulder length.

I think a lot of people still see Spa La La as just a spa or a venue for parties.

While it certainly excels at both—and that’s helped make it popular with influencers in the area—it’s also a fantastic place for regular hair appointments.

I left with soft, healthy-looking hair and felt like a new woman, which was exactly what I needed this morning.

I can honestly say I’ve found my new regular hairdresser, just minutes from my front door.

Tasting the influencer-approved ‘Big Breakfast’

To round off my morning, I just had to pop next door to Coco Latte to try their new ‘Big Breakfast’.

I’d seen one of my favourite local influencers, Rebecca Murphy, give it her seal of approval and, while my appetite can’t quite compete with the likes of ‘Big Simon’, I had to find out what made it so “bish, bash, bosh” worthy.

As soon as you walk in, you’re greeted by friendly staff and an adorable independent café setting, complete with a cosy snug area. It has a real community feel, with the team clearly having a great rapport with their regulars while still making newcomers—like me—feel right at home.

I ordered the medium breakfast, which comes with two of each breakfast item (sausages, bacon, eggs, tomatoes, hash browns and more), along with two slices of buttered toast and, of course, a cup of tea. A girl loves her tea!

I do enjoy a Full English, but I’ll admit I’m not a fan of the greasy-spoon cafés some people head to for a sizeable fry-up. This was nothing like that.

The quality of the food was fantastic, from the premium sausages to the thick slices of toasted bloomer. The standard white bread and cheap, bland sausages you often find elsewhere simply couldn’t compete.

The eggs were perfect for dipping, and everything on the plate was cooked just right. There was so much food for the £10.95 price point that I couldn’t quite finish it all—which I was genuinely disappointed about because it was that good.

They’ll definitely be seeing me again. Maybe for afternoon tea and a spa day!

FIVE STARS FOR BOTH!
