The city council has set up four disposal points across the city.

There is no cost for the service which runs until 4pm on New Year’s Eve.

Alternatively you can contact St Mary’s Hospice who will dispose of the tree for you in return for a small donation to the charity. Find out more about the Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice service via the hospice’s dedicated Treecycling webpage.

Here are the four free recycling points provided by Birmingham City Council:

  • Cotteridge Park (Next to the car park on Franklin Road, B30 2HF)
  • Sutton Park (Visitor Centre, adjacent to Town Gate, B74 2YT)
  • Lickey Hills Country Park (at Warren Lane, B45 8ER)
  • Sheldon Country Park (Old Rectory Farm, off Ragley Drive, B26 3TU)

Please make sure all plastic or metal is removed from the tree prior to drop off.

All the trees that are collected will be chipped and retained within the UK to create biomass electricity.

What has the council said about the Christmas tree recycling service?

Cllr John O’Shea, Cabinet Member for Street Scene and Parks at Birmingham City Council, said: “We’re pleased to be able to offer our free-of-charge service for the responsible disposal of unwanted Christmas trees.

“They aren’t the easiest items to get rid of, so this gives people a simple and convenient option rather than making a booking for one of our Household Recycling Centres.

“There are also some other great options out there which benefit good causes for a small fee, such as the St Mary’s Hospice service, which are a fantastic alternative in the season of goodwill, if you are able to support them.”
