A spokesperson for WMFS said: “At 10.38am on Monday 3 April, we responded to a house fire on North Drive, Sutton Coldfield.

“Four fire engines, crewed by 18 firefighters from Perry Barr, Erdington, Ward End and Aston fire stations attended the scene. The first appliance arrived within five minutes of being mobilised.

“Six firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used hose reels and a safety jet to tackle the fire. Crews continue to work at the scene and are currently removing tiles to access an area in the roof where the fire is thought to have started.”

It is the second house fire attended by WMFS this morning - after a man and woman died at a blaze in Bloxwich, Walsall. WMFS later updated that eight fire fighters wearing breathing apparatus worked to extinguish the fire.

The blaze badly damaged the roof of the semi-detached bungalow. A builder remained on the site this after noon and a revisit was planned for later in the day also.
