Ex-police officer jailed

A former West Midlands Police officer has been jailed for engaging in a relationship with a vulnerable woman during the course of his duties.

James Ankrett admitted corrupt or other improper exercise of police powers after he formed an inappropriate relationship with the woman in July 2017.

He was charged in 2019 following an investigation by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) and was sentenced to five months in prison on Monday) at Wolverhampton Crown Court.

Great Barr soldier died in elephant attack

A soldier from Great Barr died after being attacked by an elephant an inquest has heard. Coldstream Guardsman Matthew Talbot, 22, suffered fatal injuries on an anti-poaching patrol in Liwonde National Park, Malawi, in May 2019.The hearing, which is expected to last two weeks, continues.
