Google Maps glitch: Incorrect road closures displayed on New Year’s Day

A Google Maps technical error has led to incorrect road closures being displayed on New Year's Day, affecting navigation for many users.

National Highways West Midlands reposted a warning for drivers saying the error was showing a large number of road closures which aren’t present.

Highways teams said: “We've raised this with them. For up-to-date road closure & incident information regarding the motorways and major A roads in England please visit http://trafficengland.com or call 03001235000.”

It was reported as of 6.30am on New Year’s Day.
