Fresh yellow thunderstorms warning issued for West Midland and Shropshire - here's what to expect

The warning follows a week of bad weather for many in the region

A yellow weather warning for thunderstorms is in place for the entire West Midlands today (August 30).

In a warning issued to residents in the region, Met Office forecasters stated heavy showers and thunderstorms could cause disruption on the roads, to trains, and to power grids.

The warning is in place from 11am until midnight tonight.

It covers Staffordshire, Shropshire, Telford & the Wrekin, Herefordshire, the West Midlands Conurbation, Warwickshire, Worcestershire, Stoke-on-Trent and Powys.

Other parts of England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland are also covered by the weather warning.

A weather front is expected to sweep in from the south west late Sunday morning, bringing with it a mixture of heavy showers and thunderstorms.

The front is expected to spread across much of the country as it develops.

Parts of the country could see 10-15mm worth of rain in under an hour this afternoon.

Others could see 30-40mm of rain over several hours.

Parts of the north and north west of England are expected to see the most rain, as are parts of south west Scotland.

In the south of England and south Wales, residents could see hail, lightning, and wind gusts of 35-40mph.

Forecasters have stated that the worst of the weather will lessen as we move into the evening.
