A former West Midlands Police superintendent is one of two people charged with investment fraud.

A former West Midlands Police Superintendent has been charged alongside another person with investment fraud.

The Crown Prosecution Service has confirmed that Syed Hussain has been charged with fraud and transferring criminal property after it had authorised criminal charges against two people following allegations of an investment scam where a woman transferred £720,000 believing she would receive a substantial return.

Hussain, 54, of Barking in Essex, had been a former West Midlands Police superintendent and had since been dismissed by the force.

He was charged alongside Farah Ullah, 43, of Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, who has been charged with fraud and two counts of transferring criminal property, with the pair due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on July 1.

Malcolm McHaffie, Head of the Crown Prosecution Service’s Special Crime Division, said: “We have decided to prosecute Farah Ullah, 43, and Syed Hussain, 54, with fraud and transferring criminal property offences.

“The charges relate to alleged offending between November 2022 and April 2023.

“Our prosecutors have worked to establish that there is sufficient evidence to bring the case to court and that it is in the public interest to pursue criminal proceedings.

“We have worked closely with the Metropolitan Police Service as it has carried out its investigation.

“We remind all concerned that criminal proceedings against these defendants are active and that they have the right to a fair trial.

“It is vital that there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice these proceedings.”
