Fire crews tackle blaze at factory in Saltley, Birmingham

People are being advised to avoid the area while emergency services deal with a fire in Saltley

70 firefighters are currently tackling a blaze at a factory in Birmingham this morning (March 11).

The fire broke out on Cato Street North is Saltley, which has been closed while emergency services deal with the incident. 10 fire engines are at the scene.

A number of road closures are in place in and around the road this morning. People are being urged to avoid the area while firefighters tackle the blaze.

Locals are being advised to close their windows and doors.

A statement from West Midlands Fire Service, read: “Significant fire incident at Cato Street North, Nechells, Birmingham. Currently 10 appliances and specialist resources in attendance.

“Please be advised to close windows and doors, due to smoke in the area. Cato Street North is closed, avoid this area.”
