The fire broke out at the Queens Arms pub on Newhall Street in Birmingham city centre

A fire has broken out at a pub in Birmingham city centre this afternoon (October 2).

The fire service was called after the blaze broke out on the top floor of the Queens Arms pub on Newhall Street at around 12.30pm on Wednesday afternoon.

The fire has now been extinguished after it was started accidentally on the first floor of the pub.

WMFS statement

A statement from West Midlands Fire Service, read: “Shortly before 12.40pm on Wednesday (2 October), we responded to Newhall Street, Birmingham City Centre.

“Two fire engines from Ladywood and Highgate stations responded, the first arriving at the scene within four minutes of being mobilised. The fire started accidentally on the first floor of a pub. Six firefighters extinguished the fire with two hose reels.

“The building was ventilated and duty of care was left with the site owner, who was given fire safety advice. We left the scene at 1.53pm.”
