Peaky Blinders star Cillian Murphy has reunited with his longtime collaborator Christopher Nolan for the acclaimed director’s highly awaited next film.

Following the end of the sixth and final series of the Birmingham-inspired gangster show in which Murphy starred as Tommy Shelby, the Irishman will now feature in Oppenheimer, as J Robert Oppenheimer, the theoretical physicist known as the “father of the atomic bomb”.

The actor, 45, is a favourite collaborator of Nolan and they previously worked together on the Dark Knight trilogy, Inception and Dunkirk.

The film is based on the 2005 Pulitzer Prize-winning book American Prometheus: The Triumph And Tragedy Of J Robert Oppenheimer by Kai Bird and the late Martin J Sherwin.

Filming has now started in Los Angeles, and Murphy was pictured on set on Friday (22 April).

The actor looks almost unrecognisable on set.

Murphy can be see wearing a charcoal grey suit with high-waisted pants in pictures published by the Daily Mail.

He was also sporting a new hair cut for the role, which was quite different from his classic Peaky Blinders trim.

What fans said about Murphy’s appearance as Oppenheimer

Replying to a tweet showing the pictures of Murphy by the film acoount Letterboxd, fans expressed their excitement to see the film.

One Twitter user, wrote: “Wow he looks so different. He’s an amazing actor.”

Another said: “Woah. Second photo doesn’t even look like him tbh.”

Another added: “I’ve read a lot about Oppenheimer and find him very interesting, so I am looking forward to seeing this film.”
