Police are probing the unexplained death of a 55-year-old woman who passed away two days after being found with a fractured skull at her home.

The victim, who has not yet been named, was discovered with a serious head injury at her property in Gravelly Lane, Erdington, Birmingham on Sunday (16/1).

West Midlands Police officers forced their way into the address and found the woman collapsed on the floor after concerns were raised for her welfare.

West Midlands Police revealed today (Wednesday, January 19) she had sadly lost her fight for life and was pronounced dead in hospital on Tuesday (18/1).

Her death is currently being treated as unexplained while a post mortem examination will be carried out to ascertain her cause of death.

A 29-year-old man was originally arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and has since been released on bail while enquiries continue.

Detective Inspector Hannah Whitehouse, from force CID, said: “Our sympathies are with the woman’s family and friends as they come to terms with her death.

“Our investigation is on-going as we continue to ask for any information that could help us understand how this tragedy has occurred.

“If anyone saw or heard anything suspicious in the area over the last few days – or has any information that could help our enquiries – then we’d really like to speak to them.”
