Davenports reopens in Smethwick - and it’s got big plans for beer

For over 80 years Davenports was famous for its home delivery service - with a fleet of drays similar to this van in the picture below pounding the streets of the Midlands. A series of disastrous mergers led to the closure of the brewery.
But now the name Davenports is definitely back. All the cards sent through the post are a thing of the past, and their modern Internet service claims to be fast, efficient, and is already proving popular.

Hide AdThe company now operate from Smethwick. Davenports always was at the forefront of advertising and its iconic jingle rang out at one of their pubs - the Bulls Head, Five Ways.
Cen Hayward, Sales Director, says: “The response so far has been incredible. Within the first 24 hours of the website being announced, we had over £1,000 worth of sales in the first day, which was - from a standard staff - fairly incredible.
And of course, you know, with the advent of social media, the word will get around as well as through traditional media outlets as well. So it's been a fantastic launch for us. And today obviously has been a way of telling the world what we’re about”
“The brewery, which was originally in Bath Row in Birmingham, but left there in 1987. We've been in Smethwick since 2007. We've just announced that we're going to put a major investment into our brewery, which will bring us up to a state-of-the-art facility.”
