A man is being held by West Midlands Police after a spate of terrifying carjacking attempts in Birmingham city centre

The suspect was detained after two cars and a moped were targeted, as well as two other vehicles being damaged, all within 30 minutes on Monday afternoon. (October 7)

At around 3.40pm, a woman driver was pulled from a car in Lancaster Circus before it was driven away and crashed nearby in Dartmouth Circus.

An attempt was then made to take a moped from its rider and when that failed, bricks were thrown at an ambulance damaging one of its doors.

Minutes later a second car was stolen from its driver in Dartmouth Circus and that was then crashed in Dartmouth Middleway near Jennings Road.

A Toyota car was also hit with a brick, again causing damage, before the offender attempted to run.

But officers who'd swarmed the area arrested a man at around 4pm.

One of the victims did need hospital treatment but has thankfully since been discharged.
