A number of criminals were sent to jail last month (July 2024) for a range of offences.
Here’s a round-up of the criminals in and around Birmingham who have been sent down in July.
We have included the names of the people jailed, with details about the offences committed.
1. Marcus Newton
Marcus Newton, from Birmingham, was jailed for 21 years for rapes against a woman and historic rape and sexual abuse of two children.
The 27-year-old, from Aston, was jailed at Wolverhampton Crown Court on July 26 following a trial.
As well as being jailed for 21 years he was placed on the sex offenders register for life.
He was found guilty of two charges of raping a child under 13, one charge of sexually assaulting a child under 13 and three charges of rape. | West Midlands Police
2. Malikh Amon
A hit-and-run driver who left a father with fatal injuries and then claimed he wasn't behind the wheel was jailed.
Malikh Amon was speeding when he struck Shiraz Ali Khan who was crossing Highgate Road in January 2022.
The 25-year-old, of Church Grove, Birmingham, admitted causing death by careless driving and perverting the course of justice. He was cleared of causing death by dangerous driving.
He was sentenced to two years in jail at Birmingham Crown Court on Monday (29 July) and will be banned from driving for three years. | WMP
3. Akeem Lawrence
Jailed for the murder of a young father in a residential street in Birmingham almost four years ago - and will serve at least 35 years behind bars. | WMP
4. Sirfraz Iqbal
A robber who stole cars and cash at gunpoint during a week-long crime spree in Birmingham was jailed.
Police arrested Sirfraz Iqbal shortly after a woman in her 70s was robbed of cash, keys and her mobile phone in Ward End Park. | WMP
