Man arrested after police recover gun in Handsworth

A man has been arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm after a gun was found in a bag in Birmingham last night (14 February).
The driver of a Skoda Fabia failed to stop for police on Handsworth Wood Road after officers noticed the car driving erratically.

Hide AdOfficers lost sight of the car, but after a search of the area, police spotted the Skoda parked up on Antrobus Road.
The driver of the car was spooked and again attempted to flee.
The 32-year-old man was arrested after a gun was found in a bag hidden under a nearby vehicle.
The weapon has now been recovered and is being forensically examined.

Hide AdThe man, who was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm and suitable ammunition in a public place, remains in police custody today (15 February).
A spokesman for West Midlands Police, said: “We take gun crime incredibly seriously, and will not be tolerated on our streets.
“If you know anyone in possession of a firearm, contact Crimestoppers anonymously today on 0800 555 111 and help us remove these dangerous weapons from our streets.”
