Robbery offences are increasing across Birmingham and the West Midlands and police have launched a new operation to tackle the rising crime rates.
The force has stressed that the increase is “small compared to last year” and that it is prioritising calls related to robberies and taking action to disrupt known offenders.
Officers said the new Operation Ruby has led to 153 warrants being executed over the past month and over 380 arrests.
Detective Chief Inspector Adam Jobson said: “Where all other key crimes have seen a reduction, robbery is persistently above our average levels of offending. The increase is relatively small, but it’s not a situation we’re happy to accept. Our communities expect us to tackle the issue.
