Machete seized and police officer assaulted in Birmingham as boy, 16, charged
A boy, 16, has been charged with possessing a blade and assaulting a police officer in Birmingham.
Police stopped and searched the boy, aged 16, alongside another boy, aged 15, on Sutton New Road, near the High Street in Erdington on Wednesday (7 April).
During the search, an officer was assaulted.
West Midlands Police said: “Thankfully they were not seriously injured, but we take any form of assault against our officers and staff incredibly seriously.”
According to the force, a machete, a quantity of suspected Class A and B drugs, and several items linked to drug dealing were all seized in the area.
The two boys were subsequently arrested.
The 16-year-old, who can’t be named for legal reasons, has since been charged with possession of a blade and assaulting an emergency worker.
He is due in court later this month.
The recent patrol is part of West Midlands Police Operation Fearless - an investigation into drugs with detectives following a number of lines of enquiry.
West Midlands Police added: “Operation Fearless has recently stepped up its presence in Erdington again, following a successful launch there last year.”
