Wednesbury's Bescot Stadium rail station closed after woman left with ‘life-threatening' injuries in assault

A train station in Wednesbury closed on Monday morning (October 21) after a woman was assaulted and left with ‘life threatening’ injuries.
West Midlands Police confirmed that an 18-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in police custody. The assault took place on Sunday evening at around 11.30pm. The force is assisting British Transport Police following the incident. Officers are currently on scene and the station is closed while enquiries into the investigation are ongoing.

Hide AdRail replacement coaches will operate between Tame Bridge Parkway and Walsall, calling at Bescot Stadium in both directions while the station remains closed today.
A statement from British Transport Police read: “Officers were called to Bescot Stadium railway station just after 11:25pm today (October 20) following reports of a serious assault.
Paramedics also attended and a person was taken to hospital with injuries believed to be life threatening. One man aged 18 has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in police custody.”

Detective Chief Inspector Paul Attwell said: “Enquiries into this incident are ongoing and passengers will see an increased police presence in the area as a result.
