Hundreds of protesters gathered in Victoria Square to demonstrate against controversial tax cuts imposed by Liz Truss’s government.
Business Secretary Jacob Rees Mogg was jeered has he made his way to the ICC - where the annual Conservative Party Conference is being held - escorted through the crowds by police.

Hide AdDemonstrators in Victoria Square were furious at Liz Truss’s economic plan and concerns over climage change. They carried signs reading “unelected, unaccountable, unhinged” and “wages up, bills down, Tories out”.
Speaking ahead of the conference, Ms Truss said she is standing by her tax-cutting plan as she refused to rule out public spending cuts.
Amid the scenes former Spice Girl Melanie Brown was spotted arriving at the conference.
Yesterday (Saturday, October 1) she caused a stir by posting a hint on instagram that the Spice Girls maybe getting back together, saying: “To ALL our fans get ready for #spiceworld25 yippppeeee its here at long last!!!! Boom #girlpower #foryou #friendshipneverends #spicetour2023.”

Hide AdHowever, it is apparent that Melanie hasn’t travel to Birmingham to confirm this news. She is attending the Conservative Party Conference to join The Sun and Womens Aid: Speak Out Against Domestic Abuse, at the Hyatt Hotel.
The TV star has previously told how she was a victim of domestic abuse for ten years. She has become patron of domestic abuse survivors’ charity Women’s Aid and was recognised for her commitment earlier this year with an MBE in the Queen’s Honours List.
