Commonwealth Games 2022: Birmingham hotels sell out & others triple prices

The Commonwealth games are just around the corner and we have all the information you need to avoid the hotel price hikes with Travelodge and Premier Inn tripling prices and Ibis and Bloc hiking rates too

Birmingham 2022 begins on July 28th and runs until August 8th.

Hotels across the city are using the games to hike prices as various places to stay have already sold out.

In the case of some hotels, room rates are being doubled and even tripled, such as Travelodge in Birmingham Central who’s weekend prices have gone from £213.97 to £705.97.

Some hotels are even running on what they refer to as a “Commonwealth Event Rate” to justify their price hikes to customers.

Many of the hotels are quickly running out of rooms, but it is always worth checking sites like booking.com or lastminute.com that could offer rooms in the city centre or slightly further afield if you are willing to travel.

Hotels that are already sold out include; The Grand Hotel, Park Regis, Hotel De Vin, Britannia, The Macdonald Burlington, Hotel Indigo, St Paul’s House and Malmaison.

If you have tickets to the games then be assured that there are hotels still available if you’re looking for somewhere to stay.

Unfortunately, it seems impossible to avoid the price hikes but some hotels are offering a better deal than others.

We’ve taken a look at hotels with rooms still available, their prices and the price hikes in place.
