In the case of some hotels, room rates are being doubled and even tripled, such as Travelodge in Birmingham Central who’s weekend prices have gone from £213.97 to £705.97.
Some hotels are even running on what they refer to as a “Commonwealth Event Rate” to justify their price hikes to customers.
Many of the hotels are quickly running out of rooms, but it is always worth checking sites like booking.com or lastminute.com that could offer rooms in the city centre or slightly further afield if you are willing to travel.
Hotels that are already sold out include; The Grand Hotel, Park Regis, Hotel De Vin, Britannia, The Macdonald Burlington, Hotel Indigo, St Paul’s House and Malmaison.
