The countdown to Christmas has begun and many families will already be starting their preparations for the big day.
Birmingham's German Christmas Market kicked off the festivities at the start of November with the festive holiday season almost upon us.
As always, many people will be cooking their own dinners to enjoy with their families on Christmas Day. Those tasked with cooking the big dinner will now be wondering the best places are to get a turkey for the festive feast.
There are many butchers in Birmingham who will be selling high-end turkeys for their customers in December. We've spoken to six different butchers around Birmingham to see what type of turkeys they will be selling this year and to see what other goodies will be on their festive menus.
Here are six butchers to buy from this Christmas:
1. Rossiters Butchers, Bournville
Rossiters Butchers is Birmingham's first organic butchers. They are currently selling free range turkeys this Christmas and and are taking orders now. They have Kelly Broze turkeys, Walters Organic, and Caldecott turkeys available this winter. Rossiters, which is owned by Steve Rossiter, are also selling free range cockerals and geese as well as pigs in blankets and their own Christmas pudding
2. Browns of Harborne, Harborne
This popular family butchers in Harborne is owned by Jason Brown. Jason said all of the shop's meats including this year's Christmas turkeys are free range including traditional white and bronze ones. Their turkey is sourced from Clows Top Farm in Kidderminster. Free range geese and cockerals are also on the menu this Christmas and customers can enjoy mince pies and mulled wine while they wait for their meat this December
3. Lacey's Craft Butchers, Wythall
Like Rossiters, Lacey's also source their Christmas turkeys from Caldecotts Farm. The Caldecott family have reared turkeys on their 40-acre farm in Wythall since 1933 and is just up the road from Lacey's Butchers. They also use Kelly Bronze turkeys. Lacey's will also be offering customers a Christmas hamper in which they can pick a range of meats for a set price.
4. Craig Finch
Craig Finch butchers is known for its top quality meats. They are selling fresh free-range bronze turkeys and geese, turkey crowns and new for this year, they are selling award winning Packington free-range cockerels as well.
