West Midlands Police officers have uncovered a cannabis factory worth approximately £100,000.

The huge outfit was uncovered by the Stockland Green neighbourhood police team who reported the drugs discovery yesterday (Saturday, October 29). They said the cannabis factory was found on Woolmore Road and said it was uncovered with help from the local community.

Local people have praised the discovery of the drugs operation, with one person commenting on Twitter: “Great work Erdington WMP and well done for involving people in the local area because it is those people who are at risk of suffering the effects of those crimes especially the immediate neighbours who are at risk of experiencing fires.”

West Midlands Police have not commented on whether any arrests have been made at this stage. They said: “With the help of the local community, Stockland Green NHT has discovered a running cannabis factory on Woolmore Road worth approximately £100K.”

The discovery comes as the latest data from the Office for National Statistics shows that crime has risen in Birmingham over the last year - with 21% more offences being committed in the city.

There has been an increase of 27,412 offences - with a total of 160,876 offences recorded in the 12 months to June 20222, up from 133,464 in the same period last year. Included in these statistics is a 13% increase in drugs offences with 3,506 recorded during this period.
