Five Wetherspoons pubs in Birmingham and the West Midlands have featured in CAMRA’s Good Beer Guide 2024 - the first time each has ever been listed in the definitive guide.
Overall, 117 pubs in the West Midlands region feature in the 2024 guide, with new enteries from Wetherspoons pubs, including three from Birmingham, one from Walsall and one from Dudley.
The annual guide, released by CAMRA and on sale now, offers an insight into the best pubs, bars and clubs around the UK.
It highlights venues selected by its members “as places to savour good beers from small breweries as well as cask-conditioned lagers and world beers and some pubs are highlighted for serving real ciders too”.
There are dozens of venues across Birmingham, Sandwell and Solihull that have made it into the CAMRA Good Beer Guide 2024 - with many regularly featured year after year. And this is the 51st edition.
This year’s 2024 Guide contains 910 newly featured UK pubs, which is a fantastic prospect for the pub trade which has been struggling to stay afloat in recent years following the pandemic and rising fuel costs.
Here are the new Birmingham and West Midlands Wetherspoons pubs to feature in this year’s new guide.
1. The Briar Rose Wetherspoons, Bennetts Hill
This Birmingham city centre Spoons is a new entry in the beer guide. The large, city-centre Wetherspoons has a number of eating and drinking areas and is a popular city drinking spot
2. The Navigation Inn, Wharf Road, Kings Norton
Another Brum Wetherspoons to feature is the Navigation Inn. The spacious pub is ideal for family meals and good beer at decent prices
3. The Mare Pool, Lichfield Road, Mere Green, Sutton Coldfield
Another new Birmingham entry comes from the Mere Green Wetherspoons. The name of the pub refers to the many pools that used to surround Sutton Coldfield.
4. The Bloxwich Showman Wetherspoons, Walsall
The Wetherspoon pub, which was a former Cinema, has been praised for its Sharp’s Doom Bar and good prices
