JD Sports will more than double its presence in the Bullring next year, it has announced.

The huge sportswear retailer has been at Bullring since 2003 and will open a new 27,500 sq ft store on the lower level. This will be replacing the former Sports Direct store on the lower mall.

The new store will stock more ranges from popular brands such as Nike, Adidas, Under Armour, and Converse - giving shoppers a wider selection of choice products.

The store is set to open in Summer 2023 and will create more than 40 new jobs at Bullring & Grand Central, which is owned by real estate-giant Hammerson.

The deal is another feather in the hat for Bullring. This summer it was an official provider to the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, offering exclusive access to a suite of new EV Charging Points for the Games’ electric vehicle fleet and was chosen as the location for the official merchandise store. It is also home to Birmingham Weekender, B-Side Hip-Hop Festival, Pride and Its Carnival.

Last November, it was announced that M&S and TOCA Social would enliven a former department store, while designer fashion brand Tessuti - a JD Sports brand - will open its largest offering in the West Midlands at Bullring in 2023. Miniso - a Chinese lifestyle products retailer - also opened its doors this month at the shopping destination.
