The St Patrick’s Day Festival in Birmingham is one of the highlights of the calendar in our city, so what is in store for the 2022 event?

Here’s all you need to know about the festival.

Is there a parade this year?

Unfortunately, due to major regeneration works around the usual parade route and particularly Digbeth, the parade will not be taking place at this year’s festival.

However, keen to make the first festival since before the pandemic an unmissable event, organisers have a lot planned.

When is the festival?

The festival is set to be bigger and better than ever this year, with a host of musicians performing across a weekend full of events.

Events are taking place on Friday 11 and Sunday 13 March.

What is happening across the weekend?

The official launch event of the festival takes place on 11 March and will be a chance for attendees to enjoy a night of entertainment and a traditional three-course meal.

The Old Library in Digbeth is the setting for this festival opener, which is set to have plenty of traditional Irish music and dancing.

There will also be music from the popular Birmingham Irish band ‘On The Sesh’ which is sure to get the weekend off to a rocking start.

Sunday 13 March would have been the day of the parade, but instead the festival organisers have worked hard to put on a huge day of celebrations.

Instead of the parade, the community is invited to celebrate in the St Pat Rocks festival area. The legendary Irish folk band ‘Beoga’, best known for working alongside Ed Sheeran on his 2016 hit ‘Galway Girl’, will headline the St Pat Rocks stage, alongside homegrown Irish dancers.

‘Beoga’ will be joined by other famous Birmingham Irish bands performing include ‘Heed’, ‘Lampa’ and ‘the Father Teds.’

Taking place in the heart of Birmingham’s Irish Quarter at the Zellig Car Park, there will be plenty of opportunities for attendees to celebrate, with Guinness on tap to cater to everyone’s stout needs, and some of Birmingham’s best street food traders joining in on the action.

How much are tickets and are they available now?

Tickets for both the official launch event and St Pats Rock are on sale now.

For the launch event, single tickets are £30 per person or £270 for a table of 10.

Festival organisers originally had plans for an entry fee to the St Pat’s Rock event, but upon reflection the St Patrick’s committee - a group of volunteers themselves - have decided to offer tickets for free online.

The committee has welcomed donations, but this means the continuation of the tradition of a free, fun, family day out in Birmingham, organised by the community for the community.

Anyone who had already purchased tickets before this decision will be able to receive a refund from eventbrite following the event, or you can choose to donate the cost of your ticket to next year’s parade fund.

A St Patrick’s Festival Birmingham spokesperson said: “[The Festival]  is looking forward to welcoming the community from Birmingham and beyond back for a well-deserved celebration after a long awaited return.”
