What does Storm Franklin yellow weather warning in Birmingham mean?

A yellow weather warning is currently in place for Birmingham as further periods of very strong winds are expected which could cause disruption

The Met Office has issued the weather warning, which is due to be in place until 1pm today.

The weather warning is less severe than the amber weather warning that was issued on Friday when Storm Eunice hit the region.

West Midlands Railway and National Express West Midlands have warned passengers of travel disruption on services.

But what else can you expect while the weather warning is in place?

According to the Met Office during a yellow weather warning you can expect:

• Some damage to buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs, could happen, along with trees/branches being brought down
• Road, rail, air and ferry services may be affected, with longer journey times and cancellations possible
• Some roads and bridges may close
• Power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage
• Injuries and danger to life could occur from large waves and beach material being thrown onto sea fronts, coastal roads and properties

What should I do if I’m planning to travel while a yellow weather warning is in place?

The Met Office has advised that anyone planning to travel by train, bus or aeroplane should check with their local providers

West Midlands Railway has issued details of some disruption.

National Express is urging passengers to take extra care.

The RAC has urged drivers to consider postponing journeys if the weather conditions continue.
