Birmingham St Patrick’s Day Parade 2023 cancelled - but a community event could still be held

Birmingham’s popular St Patrick’s Day Parade has been cancelled once more - and plans for future events are ‘in review’.

The parade, which attracted crowds of over 80,000 in previous years, is now being managed by The Birmingham Irish Association (BIA) who are looking at hosting a separate community event this year - but plans are not yet ready to be officially announced.

Like last year the 2023 Parade has been cancelled due to the ongoing redevelopment of Digbeth High Street, the BIA confirmed.

A festival was held around Digbeth in place of the parade in 2022. And many pubs in Digbeth have announced a range of events on March 12 - what would have been St Patrick’s Parade Day, including Norton’s, Hennessey’s and The Old Crown.

• Norton’s has announced 10 days of entertainment beginning with St Patrick’s Sunday on March 12.
• There’s a St Patrick’s Day Parade Day at Hennessey’s followed by separate St Patrick’s Day live music and coverage of the Cheltenham Festival.
• In addition to St Pat’s Parade Day on March 12, The Old Crown is hosting evenings with Irish boxer Barry McGuigan and football hero Paul McGrath

Maurice Malone, Chief Executive for BIA said: "I can confirm The Birmingham Irish Association (BIA) are now pleased to be the custodians of the Birmingham St Patrick’s Day Parade.

“The Birmingham Irish Association will now take time to review the St Patrick’s Day Parade, but this review is in its early stages and no decisions have been made.

“We are considering a low-key community event which will be subject to a Safety Advisory Group process and agreement. The Birmingham St Patrick’s Day Parade will not be held in Digbeth in 2023, due to the ongoing redevelopment of the High Street."
