Six people arrested following burglary at suspected cannabis farm in Smethwick

A group wearing balaclavas and armed with weapons broke into the house earlier today

Six people have been arrested in Smethwick this morning (23 February) following a burglary at a suspected cannabis farm.

Officers were called to Oxford Road at just before 1.30am to reports of a house being broken into by a group wearing balaclavas and armed with weapons.

A number of cannabis plants were removed from the house and placed into a waiting car. As it sped off, it crashed into parked cars on the street.

According to West Midlands Police, the occupants fled the car and were arrested nearby on suspicion of aggravated burglary and criminal damage.

A 19-year-old man, two 15-year-old teenagers and three 17-year-old’s remain in police custody.

A BB gun that looked like a handgun was also recovered. The drugs from the house will now be destroyed. A spokesman for the force, said: “If you can help with our ongoing investigation or know who is responsible for drug crime in your area, call Crimestoppers anonymously today on 0800 555 111. Quote reference number 163 of 23 February.”
