Man like Mobeen returning for season 4: everything to know about Birmingham-born comedian Guz Khan

Best known for his BBC comedy Man Like Mobeen, Birmingham-born Guz Khan found his footing in the comedy scene through social media.

In 2014, he performed alongside Citizen Khan for BBC Asian Network but his Guzzy Bear videos are what catapulted him to the big leagues. The former humanities teacher quit his job as a secondary school teacher to pursue a career in comedy and acting after his videos took off.

Since then, he has performed his stand-up routines on Live At The Apollo, acted in Idris Elba’s Netflix comedy Turn Up Charlie, played Basheer in the Hulu series Four Weddings and a Funeral, made appearances on Celebrity Gogglebox and Taskmaster, and gives his voice to animated series Digman!

Now, he will be returning with the new fourth season of Guz Khan’s BAFTA®-nominated series Man Like Mobeen, written by him and co-creator Andy Milligan.

In the season three finale, Mobeen finds himself behind bars with Nate after their close friend Eight had been killed. In the new season, as they adjust to life on the inside, familiar faces are also set to return, but in very unexpected situations. All this means Mobeen and Nate must once again negotiate new challenges and circumstances.

The show will have a special red carpet event in Birmingham on May 23. Guz Khan (Mobeen), Tolu Ogunmefun (Nate), Dúaa Karim (Aqsa), Andy Milligan (writer) and Gill Isles (executive producer) will be in attendance.

The event will be held at The Bond in Digbeth, Birmingham on Tuesday 23 May. The fourth series of Man Like Mobeen will be released on BBC Three and BBC iPlayer in Summer 2023.

Where did Guz Khan grow up?

Born Ghulam Dustgir "Guz" Khan in Birmingham, the 37-year-old British comedian and actor grew up in a housing estate in Hillfields, Coventry.

He attended Stoke Park School and went to university at Coventry University. He used to teach Humanities at Grace Academy.

He has spoken out about his childhood, growing up in a working class community. He told the Guardian: “We may not have had money, but there was a community feeling – if you didn’t see your mum for a couple of hours some auntie would check in on you, whether it was one from a south Asian family, a Caribbean or a white, working-class, Irish family. Somebody would be there for you. We generally never saw the levels of abuse and violence and temptation that this current generation sees, despite struggling financially.”
