May Day bank holiday: changes to train and bus services in Birmingham

Many across the country will be heading off on a short break to enjoy the May Day bank holiday weekend.

With the roads expeted to be busy and up down the country, many will also be using public transport to reach their destination this weekend.

With that in mind, we’ve had a look at timetable changes this weekend to help you plan your journey.

Trains and railway journeys in the West Midlands this bank holiday

Essential engineering works are being delivered over the May Day Bank Holiday weekend this year, impacting journeys across the West Midlands Railway and London Northwestern Railway network.

On Saturday (30 April) trains from Lichfield Trent Valley to Bromsgrove will depart slightly earlier.

Also on Sunday, trains between Birmingham New Street and Hereford will run to and from Birmingham Snow Hill instead.

What about bus routes in Birmingham?

On Sunday (1 May) as a result of the Birmingham Half Marathon and road works taking place, road closures will be in place in the Birmingham area.

As a result, rail replacement buses at Bournville and Northfield stations will pick up from these alternative locations:

• Bournville: Buses will pick up / drop off from bus stops on Linden Road
• Northfield: Buses towards Birmingham will pick up from the bus stop adjacent with West Park Avenue.
• Buses towards Redditch / Bromsgrove will pick up from the bus stop before the junction with South Road (outside the Shell petrol station)

On Sunday, buses will also run between Birmingham New Street and Droitwich Spa (also calling at University and Bromsgrove).

There will be some changes to bus services on Sunday due to the Great Birmingham Run.
