Marks & Spencer granted alcohol licence for Birmingham Bullring store from 6am to midnight

Retail giant Marks & Spencer have been granted an alcohol licence for the location where they are due to move to later this year from their current home on Birmingham High Street in the city centre.

Marks & Spencer is currently located on 42 High Street and, as previously reported, is going to take up the space left vacant by Debenhams in Bullring which closed its doors in May 2021.

The application for the grant of a Premises Licence was received on the November 2, 2022 and the statutory consultation period for the application commenced on the November 3, 2022 and ended on November 30, 2022. The Premises Licence was deemed granted on December 1, 2022 after the end of the consultation period.

Marks and Spencer has been permitted to sell alcohol at teh Bullring on Monday to Sunday from 6am to 12am. The licence also states that the premises will only permit consumption of alcohol, on site, within the area marked as “Café” on the premises layout plans.

Open vessels containing alcohol, will not be permitted beyond the area marked on the premises layout plan as “Café”.

Bullring owners Hammerson have previously told BirminghamWorld that Marks & Spencer is on track to move to Bullring in H2 of 2023. But both Hammerson and Marks & Spencer declined to give an exact date for when the new store is due to open when we contacted them this week.

Like its current home the new M&S store will be located some yards away from the biggest Primark in the world. M&S previously said that the store’s 150 strong staff will move to Bullring and the High Street store will operate until the move is complete. It is not known who will take up the space left empty by M&S in High Street.

Bullring has announced many new stores recently including Sky,Tessuti and JD Sports as well as a second venue of the bowling and gaming arena Lane7.
